Private Pilot License

What to expect?

Flight training can feel overwhelming at the beginning. Our goal is to remove the uncertainty around flight training with a detailed description of how you will go from zero to being a licensed pilot.

First Step

We recommend taking a discovery flight. This is a flight that introduces you to the flight training environment as well as demonstrates the recreational side of aviation. This should be done before taking any further steps in becoming a pilot.

  • A Medical Certificate is an FAA-issued document that verifies you meet the required medical standards to operate an aircraft as a pilot. The AME will assess your vision, hearing, blood pressure, and overall health to determine your eligibility.

You need to schedule an appointment with an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). An AME is a physician authorized by the FAA to perform aviation medical exams. Here’s how to get one:

    Find an AME Near You:

Use the FAA’s AME Locator Tool to search by location.

    Prepare for the Exam:

Complete MedXPress, the FAA’s online application, before your appointment. This generates a confirmation number the AME will need. You can access it at FAA MedXPress.

    Attend the Appointment:

Bring your government-issued ID and any medical history documentation.

  • The length of flight training will vary based on several factors primarily how often you train. The average time it takes for a student to go from 0-PPL:

    Training:

    1x Week: 14-16 months

    2x Week: 10-14 months

    3x-4x Week: 4-9 months
